MLK Day Tree Planting

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, members of the Citizens Committee teamed up with about 50 volunteers to help plant 70 new trees in Elysian Park in honor of Tu B’Shvat (“New Year of the Trees”) & MLK Day of Service.

This project was spearheaded by LA Rec and Parks Forester Leon Boroditsky, who was awarded a Cal Fire Grant to plant trees in parks throughout the city. Rachel O’Leary the Program Director for City Plants also participated in the event, as did members of the LA Conservation Corps and LA’s new City Forest Officer, Rachel Malarich.

The trees were planted, staked, mulched, and watered in short order and a good time was had by all!
